In this fresh look at the Pacific War, the objective of the authors was to go behind the usual sound bites and bring to life some of the lesser known, but no less important, acts of drama, courage and individual heroism. The volume is structured around the aviation art work of Jack Fellows, a professional artist, well known and respected in the USA and long time senior member of the American Society of Aviation Artists.

The artist’s style suits the subject well. Sharp focus, high contrast images with clean colours bring to life the clear blue skies and vast seas of the Pacific. The content is structured chronologically from Pearl Harbor to the final Japanese surrender ceremony held on the USS Missouri on 2  September 1945. The well written and informative text makes easy and compelling reading and there is a liberal sprinkling of good quality period photos. Overall production quality is excellent.

This is an historical reference book as much as it is an aviation art book, but it is a very good one and deserves to be read. If you are interested in the Pacific War this book is a must-have, even if you are not you will almost certainly be pleasantly surprised; highly recommended.
