Robert bailey published his first aviation art print in 1992 and since then has built up a world wide following. The Bailey style is very much action orientated with dramatic and dynamic compositions that take the viewer right into the heart of his fierce air combat scenarios. This is Robert bailey’s first book and it has been co-written by Mike Coenen, an aviation historian and long-time friend.

There is a Foreword by Colonel Clarence E ‘Bud’ Anderson then introductions by Unteroffizier Fritz Wiener, Flight Lieutenant Harry Haxby, Staff Sergeant James A Sheppard, Flight Lieutenant Douglas R Matheson and author Mike Coenen. This is followed by Robert Bailey’s own account of his career to date and his approach to painting. This section concludes with a pleasing selection of the artist’s pencil drawings.

The individual canvases are introduced by the artist who gives plenty of insight into each painting’s conception and execution plus some fascinating stories from the aircrew signing sessions. Most paintings are given a two page spread and some show the canvas at various stages of completion. There is also a liberal sprinkling throughout of the artist’s pencil drawings.

This is a lavishly produced coffee-table style book that is attractively laid out and is highly recommended.
